Distillation is a method of chemical separation based on velocity difference or volatility of material or also defined chemical separation technique based on different boiling point. In the distillation, the mixture of the substance is boiled so that it evaporates, and the vapor is then cooled back into liquid form. Substances that have a lower boiling point will evaporate first. This method represents a type of mass transfer operation chemical unit. The application of this process is based on the theory that in a solution, each component will evaporate at its boiling point. The ideal model of distillation is based on Raoult's Law and Dalton's Law. Distillation may also be said to be a separation process of components intended to separate solvents and their solvent components. The distillation result is called distillate and the remainder is called residue. If the distillation result is water, it is called aquadestilata (abbreviated aquades). In a distillation apparatus generally consists of a column or tray, reboiler (heater), condenser, drum reflux, pump, and packed. The principle of this process is the mixture to be separated, inserted in a distillation device. At the bottom of the appliance there is a heater that serves to evaporate the existing mixture. The vapor formed will flow upwards and meet the liquid (destilat) above. The low boilers in the liquid will evaporate and flow upward, while the high boilers in the vapor will again condense and follow the liquid flow downward.
